If remember correctly, YOU recommended 16" for winter... Well... I saw this good deal on OEM 17", so I jumped on it... Considering the size, any one of them that you recommended is better suited for 17"?

Ran the Artic Alpins on the TT for two seasons, 16".
gonna get the Nokians for the A4 for this season.
Again, it's gonna depend on your conditions, but a 16" tire/wheel is gonna get you thru snow better than a 17".
If you drive on dry pavement more, then you will be OK with the 17"s.

I used a set of 16" Blizzak MZ-01s last winter, and they're probably overkill for this area. They worked GREAT in the snow and ice, but they don't handle terribly well on dry ground. The Blizzak LM-22s would probably be a much better compromise. It's pretty hard to beat the Blizzaks in snow/ice traction. BTW, the MZ-01s were discontinues this year and replaced with a different tire...But I can't remember the designation.
The previous winter, I used Pirelli P-7000 SuperSports. They're all season tires, but they actually did reasonably well on both dry ground and snow.
You shoudl probably consider getting a set of 16" wheels for this area. There are usually a lot of potholes, so the extra sidewall really helps out.
