New brake pads (and rotors?)

here>>>
most that have gone this way have enjoyed the upgrade....
There is more to braking then just rotor size...<ul><li><a href="http://www.rpiequipped.com/us/product_info.php?cPath=84_330_509&products_id= 1948">http://www.rpiequipped.com/us/product_info.php?cPath=84_330_509&products_id= 1948</a</li></ul>

while size of rotor is important, heat dissipation is a key factor>>>
here is a good article on all things brakes...it is general, but it explains why OEM single piston stuff is inferior to any good aftermarket 4 piston setup...
Just my thoughts...<ul><li><a href="http://www.hotrodheaven.com/tech/brakes/brakes1_index.htm">http://www.hotrodheaven.com/tech/brakes/brakes1_index.htm</a</li></ul>

your reply just made it sound like rotor size wasn't related to heat dissipation
and I didn't see anything in the link that mentioned that the rotor is a big heat sink and a larger one can help dissipate heat.
The stock 3.2 brakes are actually quite good, two-piston, 13" rotors and based off of the B5 RS4 setup.

75k miles is a lot.
With that many miles on a rotor, you should definitely carefully measure it's thickness and compare with the minimum thickness specified on the rotor. Just because there's no grooving or lip doesn't mean it isn't being worn down.
Plain rotors from ATE, Zimmermann, and Brembo are all fine options.

as i noted, heat dissipation is the issue>>>
it can be accomplished many ways....
Not sure if you got to page two in the link i posted, but it discusses this exact issue on materials with one piece cast rotors vs 2 piece rotors with aluminum hats....
I have driven 3.2's both MK1 and MK2....and frankly they are ok, but i still enjoy my wilwood setup a lot more...this is from an all around perspective of performance and feel.....
Brakes are all about confidence and just feel they are worth the extra dollars...<ul><li><a href="http://www.hotrodheaven.com/tech/brakes/brakes2_index.htm">http://www.hotrodheaven.com/tech/brakes/brakes2_index.htm</a</li></ul>

Ahh, I did miss page two
Don't get me wrong, I love my BBK setup. It's one of the things I miss the most when I drive the blue car (wait, where did the brakes go?)
But if his car is really just a commuter it's probably overkill. The cost of the kit up front is quite a bit more than the rotors and pads that he needs and then there's the replacement cost down the road. I'm not sure what Wilwood pad and rotor prices are like but consumables are quite a bit more expensive for the Stoptechs than my stock brakes, and that's with rebuilding the rotors myself.
