Default Audi specs...

5W-40 oil, which implies synthetic since there are no no-synthetic oils in that weight.

Skip the K&N - they filter worse than paper filters, and flow marginally better.

unbiased test

i just washed the car. I took the engine covers off. holy jeez how do you work on this thing. no wonder they charge so much labor. it takes so long to take off those covers.

about the spark plugs. when i take off the engine cover. they are about 5 inches behind the dipstick right. the four that are basically mounted to that rail. im afraid to remove them.

and about the k&n i already purchased it. so ill see what happens.

Default Those would be your fuel injectors. Plugs are on the top under the coil packs.

These are your coil packs and need removed to get to your plugs.

Default Yep, and a pain in the *** to get to. I just pulled all the vacuum stuff out of the way

to get to my coilpack harness. I'd love to relocate that vacuum reservoir out of the way, maybe behind the battery box.

Default Do yourself a favor and NEVER use that jack...>

except in emergencies. There have been mumerous failures and rocker panel damage repoted. It is just not a safe design. Buy a $20-50 dollar hydraulic and use it instead for any mainenance or Wheel changing while home..

Default how difficult is it?

to change the plugs. it looks like i just use an allen wrench to remove the coil packs. there are 4 coil packs right? i could only see 2 freely. sorry for the silly questions. I dont want to break anything while changing these.

since the car has 75k miles. I wanted to put in new plugs and wires(sorry coming from a toyota). Im assuming that means new coil packs and plugs in the audi?

Default It's not too difficult, I had mine out today.

Coilpacks are held in with 5mm hex bolt but to get to them you need to move some stuff out of the way. I pulled the pressure pipe off (the L shaped pipe on the left of the engine). There are two 13mm nuts that hold the clamps in place to secure it. I removed the hose at the forward end of the pipe as well and then you can swing the pressure pipe out of the way.

As you noticed you can only see 2 of the coilpacks. The other two are under that bundle of hoses and other miscellaneous crap. There are two 10mm bolts that need to be removed, they're towards the front of that large oval shaped plastic device. Also, there are five 5mm hex bolts that hold a bracket over top of the coil packs. Get all of that out of the way and the coilpack connectors just unclip and slide off and the coilpacks pull out.
