New TT owner with two questions.

I just bought myself a 2002 TT225 with 65,000 miles!
I love it already. I'm glad to be a part of a community like this one. I've already read so much useful information.
My two questions:
1. The Temperature display in the dash reads about 10 degrees to hot all the time, not just when sitting... any one have any fixes or reasons why it might be doing this?
2. When taking off from the line what is the optimum dump RPM?
Thanks,
Zach

1) The temp is from the ambient sensor...Usually mounted near the center of the lower grill. It might have fallen off it's holder and is resting against your radiator.
2) Sorry, don't do that, can't help.
Bonus round: If a timing belt replacement hasn't been done on your car, get it done immediately! Lots of failures (Figure $4K +++) reported here in the 60-65K range....

you may want to look at the sensor itself....it does sit right in front of the radiator....look through the center lower grille....it's just a little probe clipped in front of the radiator. Maybe it got bumped and is too close? or maybe it's just screwed.
When taking off from the line? I think some people say around 3000 or slightly higher? Just be careful on the clutch....
Welcome, and congratulations on the purchase...
And the obligatory question...has your timing belt, tensioner and water pump been done?

Temp display is read from a sensor clipped to the front of the car under the bumper skin. Maybe it has fallen off and is rubbing somewhere, thus giving bad reading. Did prior owner modify the car at all? If so, the outside temp sensor may be relocated somewhere else giving false readings.
Optimum dump rpm? How long do you want your clutch to last? I don't dump the clutch, but from what I've heard, about 3,000 rpm?
Glad you're here!

how much is the timing belt replacement from audi, if you know, and myself being somewhat of a mechanic myself, is it too much to do myself or is it a pretty simple swap out?

thanks! i'll check the sensor right now.
i've dumped it at 3 and i get a little squeel and then power loss, so i'm thinking it's best just to take off without dumping the clutch.
