Default New TT in Production in 2007 (official Audi announcement)

Just received my Audi news by email and this very interesting article came to my eyes.

Aluminum TT

Audi will extend its industry-leading aluminum technology -- showcased in the A8 L -- into the next-generation TT coupe and roadster. The announcement was made by Audi AG quality manager Manfred Sindel. He noted that aluminum will reduce the new TT's body structure weight by about 42% and increase rigidity, contributing directly to improved driving performance. The all-aluminum TT is expected to go into production in 2007.

Can't Wait....

Default And yet, even with the "body structure" weight DECREASE>>

Audi will find a way to INCREASE the overall weight of the new TT.

Default Well, they've already said it will be bigger.

Hopefully they'll at least keep it around the same weight but lighter would be so much better.

Default US release?

If the car goes into production in 07 than does that mean it will reach the states in 08? Then we have to hold off about a year after that for the high output TT?

I doubt the body structure weighs more than 500 lbs.

Especially since they've said that lighter is the way to go rather than join the HP Wars.

Default with a probable 08 release in the states does that mean that...

we could get a special edition release with more oooompffff just before the release of the MKII? A bit like the A/S 4-6-8 end of life special edition right before the new body launch.
Would be nice to have a 260-80 DSG with the original body like the RS that was never released.

Probably nothing so drastic, but a bit more power & a badge seems likely.
