I don't think that the difference is quite as noticable with the naturally aspirated 3.2 V6 versus the turbo 180/225. Still, I can definitely feel a boost in power with the 91 octane premium (91 is about as good as it gets here in California).

Hopefully, prices will continue to drop, as fuel prices were getting a bit ridiculous.

Default Talk about the dumbest possible way to save money.

Use gas below the octane rating suggested for your car. Yeah, real smart.

Default So you saved, what, like $20 a month by using regular?

It's not worth trashing the engine IMO. Premium only for high compression engines.

Is it okay to run any grade less than 91 in the 3.2s? Does that engine tolerate lower RON?

Default I've always found that my feul economy goes up enough to cover the differance.

Especially now that the % increase is so much less than when I started making comparisons. Haven't compared with the TT. I put the 93 APR chip in way too soon to try lesser gas, and it does require 91 even without the chip.

Default What's the problem? ECU compensates so no pings

You may have a slight drop in performance, but as long as there is no predetonation it's not like you're hurting the car...

Default Might be a reason for Audi to deny a warranty claim....

....dunno for sure. Of course you've had plenty of experience dealing with them Brad! ;-)

Default I see no difference in mileage between 89 and 93

I run 93 normally, but have gone through many tanks of 89 with absolutely no change in mileage.

Default IT may change with the engine complexity. With my 77 Nova, my 80 rabbit, and my 87 scirocco, I

always saw a difference, So I'd just buy the good fuel for the other benefits. Liek I said I never tried with teh TT since you wouldn't catch me putting 87 in that car unless I was going to be stranded otherwise. I even turned down cheap "premium" two weeks ago because it was 92 octane not 93. For the tiny price differance I'm not going to take chances.

Quick Reply: Now that gas prices have subsided a little bit, I'm back to using premium again...
