I do sometimes use mid-grade when the prices are very high. What can I say? It runs fine and saves a couple of bucks per fill up. Usually, I use premium.

Default Agreed but I suspect he is not keeping the car for the long term and therefore doesn't care.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hard to say how long I'll keep it. Either way, I don't believe that periodic use of mid-grade fuel will damage the car in any way.

Obviously, the car runs better on higher octane versus lower. I believe an accurate analogy would be that a turbo 225 would really enjoy 100 octane fuel. However, it will run perfectly fine on 91-92 octane.

Again, I do typically use premium, but every now and then I substitute mid grade. It runs nicely on mid grade, but as mentioned, high performance engines obviously enjoy higher octane fuel.

Default It will obviously run better if you use something that is higher than spec

and worse if you use something that is lower than spec but the spec is the minimum rating. One has to assume that using something below the minimum would cause damage or there would be no minimum and Audi would not even have a spec listed.
