Need boost? The Mini Cooper S can now pack 200 hp, thanks to a factory-warranted upgrade.
Mini Cooper S owners seeking an extra dose of power soon will be able to turn to none other than Mini's namesake power broker, Britain's John Cooper Works, for a factory-warranted upgrade that boosts the S from 163 hp to 200 hp.
BMW/Mini will debut the kit at the Geneva show next month. Customers will be able to buy the upgrade immediately after the U.S. announcement in New York in April. The kit will be available through designated Mini installers as a new-car option or as a retrofit on used Cooper S models.

Seriously, be the only one on your block (or the forum - aside from me) to own the infamous gas tank puntured TT East Asheville Mascot TT!!!
I really like the Cooper S and have been thinking about replacing the TT w/ one at the lease's conclusion. Knowing that I can upgrade one to 200hp w/out any warranty issues practically seals the deal. Why wait??
Any word on how much the kit (or dealer installed option) will run?

The Audi displaces 1.8 liters and makes 225 hp, or 125 hp/liter. The hot-rodded mini is 1.6 liters and makes 200 hp, or 125 hp/liter. But the mini costs you twice: one bump to get the 163 hp S version, then another to upgrade to 200.
What the mini does have that the TT doesn't is lightness: a 200 hp Mini will have a better power/weight ratio than a TT.

Every one of my Roadster's porky 3400 pounds does good stuff. And it's still fun to drive at the track. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
But physics are physics: if what you care about above all else is speed around the race course, then power to weight matters. But if so the Mini isn't really much to write home about. I used to have a Lotus 7. It had a 160 hp engine, but it only weighed 1250 pounds. Not very good for long trips, though, and not a great snow car.:-) It also had a mean time to fail of about a half an hour. But it was very quick.

When I get into my car after driving it, I miss the twin turbos but daymm this car handles great, even with my rolling snow tires...
