Default O2M gearing question on changing gears

Alright I've done a TON of research, and calculations. Here's what I've came up with. All calc theoretical and based on a 25.68 inch tire

Stock 225 Audi TT

Gear Ratio Speed at 7k RPM drop from shifting at 7k
3.42 14.35 37
2.11 8.84 60 2700
1.43 6.00 89 2300
4.09 4.57 117 1700
1.10 3.64 147 1500
0.91 3.02 177 1100

Final 1 4.20
Final 2 3.32

70 MPH - 2900 rpm
25 mph - 1000 rpm

O2m out of GTI 337/TurboS
Gear Ratio Speed at 7k RPM Drop at 7k
3.42 13.24 37
2.11 8.16 65 3000
1.48 5.74 96 2300
1.15 4.46 126 1700
1.17 3.62 157 1400
0.97 3.01 190 1200
Final 1 3.88
Final 2 3.10
70 mph at 2600 rpm
27 mph at 1000 rpm

O2M out of MKIV VR6 24V
Gear Ratio Speed at 7k Rpm Drop at 7k
3.36 13.02 40
2.09 8.10 64 2600
1.47. 5.7 95 2300
1.15 4.46 125 1700
1.19 3.69 157 1500
.098 3.04 190 1200
Final 1 3.94
Final 2 3.09
70 mph at 2600 rpm
27 mph at 1000 rpm

O2M out of Jetta TDI found at ( http://forums.fourtitude.com/z...21357)

Gear Ratio Speed at 7k Rpm Drop at 7k
3.81 12.3063 43 3200
2.1 6.783 79 2500
1.34 4.3282 124 1900
.97 3.1331 171 1000
.96 2.6976 198 1100
.81 2.2761 235
Final 1 3.23
Final 2 2.81

1000 rpm - 34 mph
2100rpm - 70mph

It would be ideal if we could flip flop finals around. Use say a 3.88 out of the MKIV and the 2.81 out of the TDI. Awesome highway cruising and slighty longer gears for the quarter. Anyone know if this is possible? IDEAS? I've hard gears 1-6 are swappable on all O2m's, which is good, how about final drives?

Default "how about final drives?" HPA has a final drive mod... $2000 bucks though!

Yeah, I know they do. That's why I'm doing some research. I could buy a tranny, put my old stuff on it, and sell it on ebay for probably what I bought it for, since everyone wants a 6-speed. I can't see spending 2 grand on 3 pieces.

Default Why? Is the car modified to take advantage of the extra rpms?

Just want to save gas?

It would actually do both. Save gas, and down low the car would probably gain some. That is if it's modded. Stock, it might slow it down, but with any extra boost/power I really think brining 1st and 2nd out would help a done. You guys know how short they are.

Anyone know where I can get the final drive gears for the 6 speed TDI, and if they're interchangable?

It would almost definetly help 0-60 times, since you'd lose the shift to 3rd.

Default On mileage, it would only take..>>>

Maybe 50 years to recoup that investment. I agree 1 and 2 are short, but not worth a Big dollar conversion to me.

I can hold 2nd gear in my Boxster to around 68mph which is nice though.....Broad torque curve and more displacement makes that work..

Little motors need gearing..

Default That's not a given - depends on how much more power you are making....

at that specific rpm. There are alot of factors at play here. Bigger turbo equals more lag - but more power up top. Idea is to balance gearing to spool the turbo but still keep the power band going into higher rpms.
