Default Oil Capacity

Yesterday, I changed the oil on my wife's TT. Information in the owner's manual is minimal, but I did manage to find the oil capacity which is listed as 3.7 qts with filter change. I bought a gallon of oil and assumed I was okay.

I put in an estimated 3.5 quarts, and allowed the oil run down to the sump. The oil didn't make it to the bottom of the crosshatched area on the dipstick. I put the remainder of the gallon, and the oil came up slightly into the crosshatched area, but nowhere near the top. This was after leaving the car sit overnight.

I now bought another quart of oil, and have added about half of it, which brought the level near to the top of the crosshatched area, but still not to the top.

From my experience, I can only conclude that the owner's manual is in error, and the true capacity is 4.7 quarts, not 3.7 as printed. Has anyone else experienced this condition?

PS: The owner's manual also lists the displacement of the engine as 2771 cm3. This I know to be in error.
