Default oil change

I searched the old post and I see a few different opinions. I have a 2002 180 coupe. I am approaching 3000 miles. Should I wait until 5k or go ahead and change the oil at 3k??

Default The manual very clearly says 5K, what makes you think 3K might be appropriate?

Except as a means of wasting money and natural resources.

Don't listen to Jiffy Lube types...5k is more than ok. 3k is just to sell more oil.

Default Personally I wouldn't keep the oil in the car for more than 4 months.

Also I didn't do a number of cold starts on a young engine. Took it for a trip on the back roads, racking up 1000 miles in 2 days. Changes oil immediately afterwards.

15000 km or 1 year what I do with no worry. I listen to the factory.

Is there any possibility that the factory is trying to ruin my engine and sell a new one ? :-)

Default Just did mine at 11 months and 6K...should have probably done it at 5K, but was lazy...

anything less than 5K is really not neccessary IMHO...unless perhaps you were driving in a taxi cab like situation in 90+/- degree heat. Plans moving forward are to do it every 5K +/-...

PS - Addl' oil used during first 6k = .5 qt

Took mine to the dealer at 5K and they assured me that oil change at 10K would be fine. Good or bad?

Bad. Even with Mobil 1, don't exceed 5,000 miles.

10K is just fine. Lots of oil analysis have been done to support this fact.
