Oil filter and viscosity recommendations-Switch to mobil-1 at 30k ok?
The manual states 5w-40? Use this or something else for summer? And am I alright using a factory oil filter or should I check into aftermarket? And should Mobil-1 be ok after 30k of dealer oil-whatever they may have used? Coulda searched this one but lazy this morning and I want a personalized answer!

depends on if the dealer used dino oil or synth. Some have had leak issues>>>
after switching to synth after long use of the dino oil.
My wife's A4 had a serious leak issue after trying to switch to synth after 35,000 miles. Ended up using a blend in her car to prevent the leaking.

I switched an '88 5000 TQ at 80K w/o problems
It was using a quart of oil in 7k miles when I sold it at 180k. Inside the engine looked new also.

The Audi manual states 5w-40, but if not available 5w-30... I went for 5w-40 synthetic and the only good oil I could find in this weight was Liqi-moly. It's a German motor oil and I never had to top-up between oil changes and I have 80k on my 2001 TTQ. As for filters OEM work fine.

How can switching to synth oil cause leaks? I switched to synthetic at 60K miles when I started
doing my own oil changes, and my oil level has never dropped, either with dino or synth.

There is some controversey about this and results vary. However, research shows that>>>
some of the engine seals (mainly older seals) can become used to the dino oil after they set. Synth oil is a better oil granted, but has no impurities in it thereby making it more effective. Well, the impurities in the dino oil can affect the seals of an engine once they set. These impurities actually affect the seals over time and actually aid in sealing the engine. Well, in some cases, the removal of the dino oil and introduction of synth removes the dino oil impurities. It is a case by case basis and there has been debate on this and other fourms regarding this. The cases of lack of success in switching over is few but it is not a myth.
Like I said, switching on my wife's A4 resulted in leaking. Moved to a blend and now everything is okay. I've run nothing but synth in the TT (after break in period).
I agree that one can switch after a lot of miles. I switched my old MR2 to syth oil after 80,000 miles with no problem.
I had a couple of friends experience the same thing on hi-milage cars. Both switched, one had minor leakage around seals, the other none. The one with minor leakage, stayed with the synth and after a couple of oil changes, the leak disappeared.
Go figure.
