Default Oil pump. Electric or gear driven?

Does anyone know if the TT's oil pump is electric or gear driven? And if it is electric, where is it at?

TIA

Default Engine oil pumps are almost always driven mechanically.

It's simple, positive, and reliable. Even dry sump pumps (4-5 on an engine) are mechanically driven, often by timing (toothed) belts.

Interesting question. Why did you ask?

Default I asked because...

I figured it was gear driven, almost all motors do it that way.

I asked because we haven't driven the TT for nearly a month. I thought if there was an electric pump, I'd supply power to it and circulate the oil before starting the car, thereby avoiding a dry start.

In the future, I'm going to start it and let it run every couple of weeks.

I have to do the same thing with our motorcycles too - the curse of too many toys, poor weather and too little time to enjoy them... thankful for the problem though.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Default I had a feeling that's why you were asking. My car sat for a year, and I wanted to "spin up" the

pump as well. The one thing you could do would be to find the fuel pump fuse, and disconnect it, turning the car over without starting it to pressurise the oil system, not the same, I know, but as good as you can do with the 1.8T. In the end, I just pulled mine out of the garage, put the battery back in, and turned the key. She fired up like I had just ran it 5 minutes ago, amazing. If you are really interested in priming the oil system on any vehicle, there's a company that makes a pump that primes the oil system, I happen to have a brand new one, bought it for a PowerStroke diesel that I had in '96, and never installed it. I can look up the name for you if you'd like. HTH, Jack

Default Just use synthetic oil and let it warm up thoroughly when you start it.

You might consider adding some StaBil to the gas for long storage. I do on the lawn mowers, but didn't on the Vette. Go figure.
