Engine oils for vehicles without LongLife service

VOLKSWAGEN 505 01 for diesel engines with pumpe-Duese


"Vehicles, which are not equipped with the LongLife technology, may not be filled for technical reasons with LongLife engine oil (Volkswagen standards 503 00/506 00 and 506 01)! "

I heard the "technical reason" was that the oil was too low in viscosity at regular starting temperatures, however the manual states you can use regular 0W-30 oil so that can't be the case. Mobil 1 0W-40 meets specs for VW 502 00, 505 00 & 503 01. The statement not to use Longlife oils in standard engines does not specifically mention 503 01. Anyone now the reason for the restriction and why 503 01 would be exempt?
