Don't attempt unless you have the right tools for removing the filter.
The original oil filter is notoriously hard to remove. Audi does not lubricate the gasket, and they torque the filter to about 1000 foot-pounds.
Forget about using any sort of strap-type filter wrench! You'll need a cup-type wrench that fits over the end of the filter so you can crank it with a 3/8" ratchet.
On mine, even the cup wrench just slipped because the filter was on so tight. I had to take a piece of 100-grit sandpaper, fold it in half, stuff it inside the cup, and tap the cup onto the filter with a mallet. That gave it enough grip to loosen the filter.
Save yourself a lot of aggravation -- don't start until you have these tools at hand!
