Default Goo gone or...>

I think 3m has an adhesive remover. Then just polish out and you'll be fine...

Default I thought those wheels looked familiar.. I just got a set.

Staggered (9 rear and 8 ft)..

How have you been coping with cleaning them?

Default congrats!! I saw your pre-mounted pix...

cleaning? road tar and dead bugs, in QUANTITY find the way into the flat spots between the spokes. It's a big "hand job" to clean 'em out. I use gentle car wash soap and a soft mit and scrub away until it's all gone... same with the rest of the wheel... just soap and water. Fikse recommends Simple Green diluted to 50/50 with water IIRC. Spray on, hose off... I do this occasionally, but I find the hand wash gets better results. A caution if you have the anodized finish. It's possible to leave streaks in the anodize with chemicals or even too harsh soap, stuff used for degreasing.. so mild soap only, simple green, or surprisingly Brake Clean, doesn't seem to hurt them... and it's effective for tar removal if you fling a bit driving on brand new pavement.

again: Congrats!! got "on the car" pix?

ps: I went with 8's and 9's too, 17's (for their lightweight-ness)

Default I read this thread ealier today, went outside, and............

in short time had my quaTTro and my TT badges off and the area cleaned up. LOOKS GREAT except --> I can't seem to be able to remove the "ghost" of the badges from my butt. If you look at the right angle you can make out exactly the shape of the removed badges.
I have rubbed with both a rubbing compound as well as a "fine-cut cleaner" till both my arms were sore and it's still there. Should I buy a harsher compound. I'm afraid of going through my clearcoat.
I'm stumped. What should I do. Better yet; What would you do if you ran into this problem.

Default Thank you eas ttq. I tried everything mentioned above and.......

nothing worked. I got all of the old glue off fine by rubbing with goo gone. Then I used the rubbing compound without results. The I went to the "fine-cut cleaner" and still nothing. I'm going to try the wet sand 2000 kit as you suggested.
It did work for you and you didn't go through the clearcoat, right?
I'm going to try to take some pictures but I don't think that I'll be able to capture the "ghost" on film, although I can see it with my naked eye.

No, I didn't go though the clearcoat. I could send you some pictures later if you don't mind palm pilot quality.

Just read all the directions; use a really, really light touch; and keep the paper and the car wet at all times (I prefer a spray bottle). The areas are going to be very hazy looking right after the sanding, don't panic the after standing steps will get rid of all of it and shine the panel up nice. I found that when sanding small circular motions work better here than linear. Also you want to go a little beyond the area of the ghosting so it blends with the rest of the panel. If you still see some hazy areas when done, just repeat the after sanding steps again.

Default Ha.. I thought as much after cleaning and waxing once

PITA.. I put them (one by one) up on my work bench (after cleaning) to detail and wax them.

Lots of nooks and cranny's..

I went with the 18's.. The weight is sooooooooooooooo much better then the Sportec's I took off.

Where did you get them from? Offset? Spacers?

I was a little upset that I needed spacers at all.

I'll be using 8mm ft and 10mm rear.. Wheels were ET32

Default I got pictures and you can see the ghost.........

This first picture is as it was shot and you can just make out the TT ghost if you look closely next to the reflection of the house window.

This is the same picture with post-processing and the TT ghost is a lot clearer.

I may be **** but I don't like it. Every time I look at my rump I look for the ghosts. I'm going to try the fine grit wet sanding suggested by eas TTq.
