Default OK, I've had it since last summer, and I have hard water stains, but I'm afraid of the clay!...

We have very hard water here, and I need something to get rid of the water stains before I put Zaino on. I have the clay bar, but I'm afraid to use it. I've heard if you don't use it just right, you'll end up putting scratches on the paint. The Zaino instructions seem a little vague. I need to know if there is another product, or if someone can tell me the best way to use the clay bar.

Thanks!

Default Don't be afraid of the clay...

Go to the Griot's Garage site and look at their instructions for using the clay. Use a lot of lube, and keep the bar moving.
Where are you that you have very hard water? Here in Phoenix we suffer water with heavy mineral deposits, and very dry air, so I always have water spots to deal with. The clay works well if the spots are fairly new, otherwise you need a mild polishing compound. If you have a random orbital, Griot's sells a clay holder that cuts the time on large surfaces to nearly nothing.

Default Clay bar won't do anything with baked on hard water stains

been there done that on both my Raven Black TT and Santorin Blue A4. Only thing that will take off bad water stains is light rubbing compound. I used 3M rubbing compound followed by clay bar and then Klasse polish cleaner. Took a LONG time but they are gone. Clay bar in itself did nothing.

Default I agree 100%. PITA to deal with here as well, lots of minerals in the H2O, and dry air.

I have to polish 3 or more times a year. Mostly because of rainwater. (the 3 times a year it rains in Phoenix)

Default dissolve it first with more water then something like p21s paint cleanser......

Clay Bar may indeed work but a liquid solution and a soft pad will adapt to the surface better and get into the stain. Be gentle. Do you wash your face with pumice? I have lots of minerals in my water and I have never needed to resort to clay bar.
