OK, new computer just arrived. It's running Win Pro 2000. Anything good or bad about this version?

Drivers for older hardware can be a problem, and USB support is sometimes flaky...
The only crashes I've had on my Windows 2000 machines have been due to bad drivers and hardware problems. The system itself is quite stable. It doesn't crash because the moon comes up like Win '98.
Some drivers for Windows 2000 are still in a pretty primitive state. USB, in particular, is sometimes iffy. My desktop has crashed once in a year - and that was due to a bad video driver. My laptop doesn't do quite so well, but most crashes are USB related. Some hardware is particularly badly supported under Windows 2000. Older scanners come to mind.
Game compatibility may also be an issue. There are updates available at Microsoft's site that address some of these. Some games just won't install under Windows 2000. As long as the stock market is your only game, you'll be ok here.
Minimum memory to run W2K: 256MB. More wouldn't hurt. You'll eventually regret less since it actually supports running more than one thing at once.

It's a version of Windows; it by definition sucks...
It crashes and burns less than any other MS OS, but that's not saying a whole lot. It's trivial to crash, but usually doesn't crash while just running the screen saver like NT...

You'll be in very shape for a reatively easy upgrade to Win XP this Fall...
because the XP system is based on the Pro 2000 core. Most Win 9x (especially 95 - maybe even 98) will probably have to wipe thier OS clean and do a fresh install of XP.

It's fine for running business apps (word proc/spreadsheets/etc..). It sucks for playing games or coding games on it.
