Default Why would the RS4 engine be a shame? It's a fantastic motor, sounds great, 100hp/liter

Granted I'd rather have a V10 but the V8 is excellent.

Default Given those assumptions it seems reasonable

If the RS4 is already hitting around 4.5 to 60 and figure the R8 will be about 400lbs lighter.

Default Its an absolutely amazing engine, I just don't think its for that car. The new S8 engine would be

an excellent choice in my opinion.

Default sounds like it'll be the RS4 engine with a manual tranny.

so much work has been put into that engine that any changes would delay it and risk further problems. it would be a waste to put it only into one model as is. i suspect that the only other engine will be the V10 from the new RS6 in a year or so so that the gallardo has time to be updated further in that time.

i suspect further that the DSG will show up in about a year also. the launch version goes on sale in about february of 2007!!!!!

yes but the driver of the R8 *might* be 400lbs heavier.

Default It will probably come down to cost vs. MSRP........

In order to keep costs inline they might simply put the exact same engine in the R8 as they do in the RS4 - at least in the US due to federalization costs. Then again they might tweak it a little and add 5 or so HP just to differentiate it. As for the V10 - you know they'll eventually put it in the car - it's just a matter of what HP figure they decide to use.

Default The S8 engine is built more for low-end torque

In a car like the R8 I'd prefer the 9k redline. Now if they drop the Gallardo V10 in then we get 10 cylinders and the high redline.

Default agreed.

cost issue is real. the only change in hp figures might come because of a different exhaust set up or something, netting 5-10 at most. i would prefer that.

a 425 hp R8 with a manual tranny would be the "TT" i always wanted. that car will be so fast and so fun...priced at 100K it would slot in between the 997S with power pack and the 997 turbo but be more exclusive and infinitely more beautiful. i can do 0-60 in 5 seconds now. i think that being able to do it in 4.2 would be a nice step up.
