Default okay, i give up -- how is the metal mount under the battery supposed to work with the optima?

just tried to install a new optima battery and i'm embarrassed to admit that i cannot figure out how it mounts to the factory metal mount. i don't have an oem battery to compare it with -- in fact, i suspect the battery that i'd previously installed also was not mounted correctly. are there cut-outs on the underside of the battery that the flanges on the metal mount partner to? what degrees of freedom does the battery have when properly mounted?

on perhaps a related note, i tried to get an optima 35 (since that's what their website recommended), but i went with a 25 since the 35 was out of stock and i couldn't see any differences in the spec sheet between the 25 and 35. is this mounting issue the difference?

thanks!

Default A flange in the back that the battery slides into, then the clamp is used on the front...

Optima Batteries do not have the flange on the back, or it's not the right size to slide in under the metal part.

Default The mount is just a tab that clamps down on the bottom of the battery in the front, but...

It really only works with batteries close in size to the OEM battery. I have an Optima and I had to fabricate a new, larger "clamp" to replace the factory piece. The battery should not move at all when properly mounted.

Default Yea, it simply bolts in place, capturing the front flange of the battery. see pic #4 and 5

Default i see. so everyone has fabricated their own clamps? (updated)

or are most running with the battery unsecured? it seems i have been as well for a number of miles and nothing went horribly wrong -- though this seems like a bad idea.

what's involved in making a custom clamp?

Default If these specs are correct then the 25 and 35 are slightly different sizes >>>
