Okay, I've been thinking... (MP3, Cell Phone.. TT)
Okay, I've been thinking...
I was sitting out in the car a few minutes ago contemplating how to add MP3 to the TTR. This would probably also apply to a TTQ, though I have no experience with those.
Suppositions:
-The Concert radio actually has 4 inputs: radio, cassette,CD, and phone
-Most TT's don't have the analog cell phone option installed
-The wiring is in-place to easily add the cell phone
-The cell phone wiring is interfaced with the Concert radio
-The cell phone wiring is set up to mute the radio input when the cell phone is active, delivering the cell phone audio through the radio
-The cell phone interface provides reasonable-to-good quality sound output through the Concert radio
Flaws:
-The cell phone wiring is probably monophonic
I have a Creative Nomad Jukebox MP3 player. It ships with a 6GB HD and stores a good deal of music. It can be hacked with a 30GB HD to store approximately 750 CD's worth of music. Alternately, Nomad Jukebox.net sells drives pre-formatted with the Nomad software already installed. There's a pocket in the TTR behind the passenger's seat that would hold the Jukebox perfectly. Also, the distance between this pocket and the RJ45 interface for the phone is just a couple of feet (as the cable runs).
Flaws:
-Jukebox display is relatively small
-Display and controls for the Jukebox are mounted directly to the device
-The Jukebox takes more than 30 seconds to boot-up
On the Audio Forum, Nate has described a way to hook-up a switch to the Concert radio to choose audio sources.
So, anyway, It occurred to me that is should be relatively simple to devise a connection between the Nomad and the Concert radio via the phone jack and the audio switch. I could also probably devise a docking station for the Nomad so that installation/stowage would be simpler. The challenges would include controlling the Nomad while driving, viewing the Nomad's display ever and the probability that the signal into the Concert radio would be monophonic.
What does the Forum think about this? Is it something worth pursuing? Is the Nomad Jukebox just not suitable for this application? What do you think?

There are a few different products out that do what you are looking for . . .
Here is a listing of some that are out there . . . MP3 Car Stuff
There is another one not listed here that I forgot the name of, similar to the Neo Jukebox.
