Order submission (to Audi) to delivery time - estimates?

Is an 8-9 month wait from order placement to delivery unusual?
I checked on my 180TT FWD Coupe order over the weekend, and my dealer (at Andersen-Behl in San Jose) told me I was third on the order list. I was thinking "yippee!" until he told me that my order probably wouldn't be placed until next month, with a build date sometime in July, and an ultimate delivery date 2-3 months later. I placed my order in January and was told the wait was about 6 months, which would be June. To be conservative, I really wasn't expecting it until July or August. Now he tells me it'll be even 2 months longer than that. Needless to say, I was a little dismayed.
But maybe I'm being unrealistic. Is this time-frame normal? I'm in the SF Bay area, where demand is high for TTs, but does 8-9 months seem like too long?
I'm tempted to check with another dealer, but if I place an order with somebody else, it'll probably take just as long, no?
Sigh.

I'm thinking what your dealer told you was that you were third on the allocation list.
You put a deposit down on a place in line. Maybe you even placed an order with colors/options.
When Audi tells the dealer they can place firm orders for specific makes/models, the dealer goes down the list and checks them off. If the dealer can only place firm orders for say 2 180FWD Coupes for this months allocation, you then being third on the list, get put to first place for next moths allocation, then firm up the order.
It also sounds like your dealer doesn't really know how many FWD's will be allocated. (Not their fault) My original order was for a 180FWD coupe, and I was told the same thing. The dealers here apparently are just are not getting order allocations for 180FWD's as fast and for as many as the Quattros' and Roadsters.
I placed a firm oder for an open allocation of a 225QR, which was the *only* make/model car that dealer could order, in early April. My order went 'C' status on April 17, and yesterday the dealer confirmed it into production. I expect that it will be here late June.

Thanks for the info!
So it sounds like my dealer was maybe being too conservative with his estimate of September or October. If the dealer can place my firm order in the next month, then I should be looking at a late-July/early-August delivery. (Unless what my dealer actually said was that he doesn't expect to place the firm order until July...now I can't remember. That would put delivery in Sept/Oct. Damn.)
I hope I'm not paying for ordering a FWD 180 Coupe - it sounds like they're getting rare.

If they have you on a list but don't have your car on a build week it could take forever. If you can get a build week or better yet a VIN your car has a timeline you can follow..
1 week to build
2 weeks to ship (East Coast)
1 week to get to dealer (East Coast)
Add a a week or two to the last two if you are on the west coast.
It does seem though, that some dealers have them and some do not. Shop around.
