OT, again. (sorry) I need a portable Mp3 player...
to use at the gym. I am very confused that most models seem to have a maximum of 64MB of RAM. I just looked at my MP3's album by album and they are all over 64MB!! I don't want to re-record all of the CD's that I have already recorded to MP3 into a crappier bandwidth.
The Nomad is too big, and I am nervous about jumping around on a exercise machine or jogging with a hard drive strapped to my waist. That can't be good for the hard drive!
Please recommend models that you have actually used. I know there are some Mp3 player users out there among all these IT folks here.
Thank you!

Buy a Nike psa 120 or a new Rio 800 which will be out next month...
and be able to use microdrive and more memory in a backpack as well as is recharcheable. I am biased as I own sonicblue but decide for yourself if the 800 does not have the features to blow Sony and everyone else away in this space.

http://www.riohome.com/products/rio800.htm</a

CompUSA just sold me the Rio 500 with an HP CDR burner... $300
...the Rio 500 alone is supposed to be $300, comes with 64Mb, and passes my 14-yr-old's usage tests. To me, this was a deal, but I may be stupid.

I recommend Nomad II it is not only an MP3 player but an FM radio and voice recorder.
Its in the $250 range. Do a search on Cnet for it. You put selected songs on it, not whole albums. You can get about an hours worth of music on one memory card. You can buy additional memory cards...just like for a digicam...if you want. It has USB connectivity for relatively quick transfers. I've been very happy with mine.

Buy a Nomad
I travel a LOT, and I use my MP3 player for a lot of purposes, working out, passing the time away waiting for a delayed flight, etc., and the best one I've found is the Nomad Jukebox from Creative. It has a six gig (yes, gig) hard drive that holds about 100 CD's. It took me a few days to strip all of my CD's, but it was a breeze to use. It's the size of a typical portable CD player, so it shouldn't be a problem. It works on Macs and PC's.
BUT, it may be overkill. I think a 64 meg version is the best you can do for the smaller players.
Yes, I'm a gadget hound. If it's a gadget, I own it. Now if only can retrofit a Nav system on my TT, I'd be really happy.
