Waiter in a nice restaurant. Big checks mean big tips....as long as you're nice.

Default ok... great ideas... nested SNAP POLL: regarding the résumé...

I've tried for a few of the suggested jobs over the past year, but haven't been hired. I think this may be due to having a résumé that shows me as:

1) a tech guy
2) self-employed for 5 years, and
3) as having an undergrad degree.

It would seem that nobody wants to hire a degreed guy who will, in all likelyhood, leave for another tech job when things pick up.

POLL: Should I not even show them a résumé? What would you do?

I'm a clumsy, attention-deficient smartass. I know my limits for employment. :-)

Well...sometimes a snooty waiter is intimidating enough to guilt the general masses into big tips!

Default Nobody will hire anyone who may soon leave.....

a resume shows your history. Your personality and interview will show how dedicated you are to their company. My problem is I'm ready to jump ship at the soonest opportunity and they can tell right away. Lie and say you plan on being a grocery store bagger for ever and will even do deliveries.

Default Yes - that was my preferred technique! If they order some unsuitable (cheap) just raise an eyebrow

and say "are you SURE?" People are friggin' dumbasses - they need to be told what they like, especially the flakey crowds who frequent trendy eateries on the East coast - heh, heh... ;-)
