Default OT: Might be getting a new 2nd car, looking at the Subaru Forester S. Comments?

And please, no flames. If I could afford an Audi A4 Avant or equiv, sure that would be nice, but it just ain't in the cards... I also do not really need another "nice" vehicle to have to constantly fuss over, the TT keeps me busy enough!

Anyway, looking to replace my 6 yr old Isuzu Rodeo with utility vehicle that I can load down with biking & camping gear and not worry about mucking it up with mud and junk. AWD (not 4WD) is also very important to me. And being single I don't really want/need a large vehicle, I'm kinda finished with the truck-like SUVs and want more of a car-like SUV for traveling & commuting. I'm also trying to keep monthly payments as low as possible ($350'ish range).

So... after looking around, the only vehicle that *seems* to fit this bill is the Subaru Forester. Seems to have many positive reviews and a very good reliability record.

Does anyone here have one and can you comment on it?

Thanks in advance!

Not my choice, but they are popular around here.
Seem to have a good reputation, too. (and this goes back many years.)
The key here is knowing what you need the vehicle for, and you seem to have a good idea.

Have fun.

Default The people I know that have them love them. They are very sluggish

in response to the foot, though.

I drove one on vacation and got as far as the airport road before turning it in since it was so slow. Of course, this was in Denver, so the altitude had something to do with it!

My good friend Jonathan has one and it's very nice and reliable. Big enough for stuff, too.

Enjoy it!

Default Hmmm... I wonder if the engine can be modified!? ;)

Keep in mind that I currently drive a purty durn sluggish Isuzo Rodeo, so this will probably be an upgrade for me.

Thanks for the feedback!

Why do you need to buy something new, especially if your gonna be mucking.

Default Have you looked at the Exterra?

You certainly won't have to worry about mucking up the cargo area and the price is probably in the Forrester range.

I had a Pathfinder for a few years and never had any problems with it.

Of course, you could hold out for a used Allroad...

Yes, it's nice, but this is also about price.

Default Well, I could keep my Rodeo for that...

But it has 90K miles and it's getting to the point where it's going to need alot of maintenance $$$ to keep it reliable. Plus I need a more efficient commuter, the Rodeo gas mileage is not very good and it's... well... to truck'ish for my current tastes.
