Re: Since you're doing video work.. I'd also recommend replacing your hard drive with..
Western Digital WD1000JB/ WD1000BBCHEO (WD1000BB Special Edition) WD Caviar 100GB ATA100 7200RPM 8MB Buffer Hard Drive ($230).
or
Western Digital Caviar WD1200JB (WD1200BB Special Edition) 120GB EIDE ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer ($266).
from www.googlegear.com
The extra large 8mb cache buffer really helps.

Ellen, A life long friend's wife is a professional video editor...
Of course she has the professional equipment at work, but at home they have a G4 w/ all the bells and whistles and one of those ungodly expensive titanium laptops from Apple.
Anyway, she uses the Apple products at home and produces very professional looking stuff. The software is so easy to use that my friend (her husband) routinely takes raw footage onto his laptop and edits them while traveling on business. This guy is not a techy.
I have played with the video editing software that you get w/ firewire cards on the PC and the learning curve is so steep compared to the software products rom Apple.
Go get the G4.

Re: It's really about the software.. Adobe makes all the ones you'd really need for either platform.
I've use Photoshop and Director and it's the same feature set for either platform.
IMO, the mac has a lower learning curve because of the 'seamless' integration with peripherals. The PC is more hands-on with PnP (plug and pray) and drivers issues.
