Default Overheating Issue

01 225Q with 58,586 miles. The AC fan works perfectly fine. Although, turning on the AC doesn't change the temp of the engine at all. The driver side fan will not come on. I did the 49c test, and it got to 120 at about 3/4 on the gauge. I saw movement inside the water pump canister, like it was being pumped. If i keep the car idling, the temp actually goes down. When i drive it, it goes up quickly if i rev past 2100rpm.

I haven't found anyone with the same symptoms. If i take my car into the dealership i'm going to make them cover my belt under the warranty i bought. I know i'm approaching the 60k fast

Default Bad waterpump, stuck thermostat..>>

If you're covered under warranty, do the TB and Tensioner while you're in there..

Default thermal switch

the thermal switch that turns on your fan may be bad. It is a cheap part. But you lose all your coolant replaceing it.

Default not if the car still overheats with the fans running due to AC...

agree with Steve. If the car still overheats with the fan running it's probably t-stat or waterpump. I'd start with the t-stat since it's (marginally) easier to replace, unless it's time for a t-belt, then just do it all.

Default he says the drivers fan won't come on....

which leads me to beleive it is either the thermal switch or the fan itself. You can try putting 12v to the fan directly to see if it fires up.

Default Yeah, but it heats up at speed......>

If it was just the fans it would cool down..
This points to a T-Stat, or inefficient pump.

I took it to my mechanic, but he doesn't work on Audis. He tested the fan and said they worked, but he has no diagnostic machine to determine the real problem. I'm taking it to an Audi mechanic right now, i'll let you guys know what the deal was

Default Just had the same issue with mine

01, 225Q 57,000 miles. Went to the dealer and he found the water pump bad. Doing timing belt thermostat and tensioner while they are in there. Water pump is on my CPO Warranty so the bulk of the labor is covered. Mine was just starting to overheat. the needle would go between the center and hot and creep slowly towards hot.

Ok just got back from a mechanic. They said the motor was bad in the fan so we ran to the local audi dealership to get a replacement. After it was installed, it still didn't kick in. How can i tell if it's the thermostat or waterpump? Any tests i can tell the mechanic to do?
