Default Paging MrVegas - picture of stock XM antenna on Roadster (long) > >

Stopped by the dealer today to bring this investigation to a close. Here is how it works when you want the factory XM satellite radio option installed and activated on your new Roadster. Bob (MrVegas) <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/1412653.phtml" target="_blank">has been wanting to know how this works</a> . . .

When you purchase the car with this $400 option,

<img src="http://images12.fotki.com/v254/photos/4/41970/3021003/xmant004-vi.jpg">

you should find this in your glove compartment:

After the sale and during prep, the technician is supposed to install the antenna according to these instructions (<a href="http://www.martybird.com/roadster-antenna.pdf" target="_blank">download pdf of these instructions here</a>):

<img src="http://images12.fotki.com/v252/photos/4/41970/3021003/ant1-vi.gif">

<img src="http://images14.fotki.com/v248/photos/4/41970/3021003/ant2-vi.gif">

The antenna "hockey puck" is actually attached to the trunk lid as shown here:

<img src="http://images12.fotki.com/v251/photos/4/41970/3021003/xmant006-vi.jpg">

And plugged in to the factory wiring here:

<img src="http://images15.fotki.com/v263/photos/4/41970/3021003/xmant008-vi.jpg">

With the final install looking like this:

<img src="http://images15.fotki.com/v262/photos/4/41970/3021003/xmant005-vi.jpg">

Not the best in my opinion, but that's how it's supposed to be done according to Audi.

It'll scratch the paint; get stolen; pretty poor placement.

At least the sharkfin is integrated into the car, not just plopped on the trunk!
