parked my TT next to a black Lexus 420 coupe today
First time I had seen one of these close up. The similarity
in shape is remarkable. The exterior of the Lexus is a lot
more muscular; it exhibits more texture and detail. The wheels
on the Lexus were bursting with chrome buttresses and arches, making the
whole effect a bit too busy for my taste. By contrast, though, my
TT coupe then seemed plain and industrial. The interior of the Lexus
seemed really luxurious, burled this and burled that, but again,
very similar in concept. A flat leather armrest seemed perfectly
at home in a luxurious setting. At about twice the price of
my TT, the Lexus SHOULD seem luxurious and plush. Maybe it
was sour grapes, but it made me appreciate the "chaste", chiseled,
clean look of the TT. The Lexus is standardly equiped with Mark Levinson
audio system and not Bose.

No sour grapes, just good taste...
The 430 (like almost all members of the Lexi family) is an over-produced knock-off of someone else's concept. In this case, it's the unholy offspring of a TT and an SLK. I find nothing attractive about the SC430 -- it's too deep, too wide and too tall, and the lines aren't consistent. And dollars to donuts, it's one of those cars that you can look at in the right light and see that it won't age very well.
I'll take my TT (or an SLK, for that matter) any day of the week.
