Default parts expediting- 3 months and still waiting.

Does anybody know how to get parts faster? I incurred a lot of front end damage as a result of a collusion with a taxi in Atlantic City. The body shop guy says this is the worst car he has ever experinced to get parts. Right now he is held up by some fan cowl that is in germany. He is even having a hard time getting the right airbag and battery cover.

Default Is this an Audi body shop? According to my friend the Audi parts manager

AoA HAS TO keep airbags in the US for all models at all times. It's some kind of law.

Fan cowl, however I know nothing about.

He's not getting parts from Cherry Hill imports is he? They have a very very bad rep around here.

Default not an audi shop, but he probably is using cherry hill

said there was two part depots in the country. One for each coast. Also nobody wants to stock parts cause they are expensive and a limited amount of the cars are being built.

Default Bos! Look! Specifics for you...

I talked to my friend the parts manager and got the following up-to-date info:

Audi parts warehouses are in Jax, NJ, Chicago, LA and one in Canada.

Two passenger airbags for 2001 TT are in the Jacksonville Audi warehouse. There are 11 passenger side airbags in the NJ Audi warehouse!! Right now!

Fan cowls are backordered with an expected date in the next 5-7 days, they are currently in the air. Only two in that shipment are unnallocated, so if he hasn't ordered it already he needs to get that order in NOW. Some in that shipment are headed to the NJ Audi warehouse.

Battery covers are backordered to Germany. No expected date. But you can use the car without a pretty plastic cover for your battery.

Audi Part numbers:
airbag 8L0 880 202 D
Fan Cowl 8N0 121 207 A

Normally I would offer for your body shop to talk to my parts manager here to get the stuff. He was happy to do so. BUT shipping an airbag across state lines is problematic, it falls under hazmat laws.

With this info, you may want to find out what dealer he is dealing with, give him the parts availability info and have him sit on the dealer.

Good luck.

Default Thanks, I am going to relay info. He was expecting

the fan cowl in that time frame you mentioned. He had gotten an airbag but even though right part # the recepter plug was not right for my model. When he gets the fan cowl he can button up the front end and start painting. Appreciate the call on my behalf, at least I know I am getting the straight scoop and might be driving soon. I miss it!!!!

Default I must have misunderstood. You said "right airbag" so I thought

you meant the passenger side airbag. Reading further I see you might have meant the correct driver side airbag because the connector is wrong. Is this now correct? If so, send me your vin via e-mail to 9046163088@mobile.att.net in a very brief e-mail and I'll look into with my guy after work.
