Default perplexed about paint

I have an amulet red 225/q/c and I find that fine scratches are showing up at an alarming rate - not to mention the 6 front end stone chips that happened in the first 200 miles or so. Anyone else seeing signs of "soft paint" or similar problems - even when a good coat of hard (zymol carbon) wax has been applied?? When even bird s**t leaves ascratch - there must be a problem.....

Default The paint on these cars is very soft. My front end is all pizza-faced.

I just keep a thick coat of wax (still using up my Zymol). Now we have "love bugs" here in Florida. Little acid transportation devices.
Ivan

Default same here

My red/ebony showed fine scratches the day it left the dealer. I bitched and they paid to have it detailed at the body shop of my choice. That helped but the body man I would trust with my life said "take 2 asprin and live with it, it will never be perfect" I wash it by hand and use an absorber to dry and still the scratches multiply. Since the red is non-metalic the marks will show more. However, this will be a hard car to keep pristine.

Default Ditto here, except my car being silver it hides it a little better than a black or red etc.

I think we should all make Audi pay to respray our cars and then we can put a clear bra on fresh clean paint. Any takers?
-Jenner

Ivan,
Where did you get the "mask?" My Red 225 TTR is coming next month and if I've got it ready to put on, perhaps I can avoid the worst of the problem.

I find these problems perplexing. I have an aviator gray TT and I haven't really noticed scratches. I've actually found the paint to be pretty durable. Hell, I've gone through two hailstorms with scarcely a scratch? Is this really something a lot of people have noticed? It makes me concerned that I might need to install Invicashield.

Default Well ...

When I got mine, almost immediately, in the first 100 miles, I found some unusual scratches, but it didn't make sense that they came by driving, so I thought that perhaps the dealer or someone along the line screwed up and brushed the car with some abraisive material. The scratches weren't too bad and could be seen only in bright sunlight, and since everyone denied doing it, I had no recourse.

Since then I haven't had any unusual scratches. There are the routine clearcoat fine scratches that come from driving fast in a region with sand etc., but nothing unusual.

Default Maybe a dumb question, but ...

are certain color paints softer than others and therefore more prone to scratches?

Or do you just notice them more on darker colors?
