Default Hans, the shop that painted the wheels put clear coat on there...

the rim looks dull but it looks like the clear coat is still there somewhat. The really badly rusted parts are the lip and the edge of the rim.

I have the Mother's Billet Metal polish. I tried it and it did not work since some of the rust particles are caked on. You couldn't see it in the pic but there are small clumps of rust on there. I am tempted use a knife or metal bristles to remove it but don't want to damage the wheel.

Default I already replaced the rotor and pad. Just need to clean up the rim.

You think claybar will remove the rust? I bough Mother's claybar to detail both cars but I might use it on the wheel if it'll help.

Default drastic recommendation...it only occured on one wheel...not all of them

besides if I buy new shoes it'll be for the TT.
These are 22's for my Touareg and were not cheap. They orignally were matte black but I had them painted to my the color of the car.
Looks really good and want to keep it that way.

If I could just fix the issue with one wheel.

Default I think I may have to do that if nothing works. I would hate to have to repaint it...

because this wheel would end up looking newer than the other wheels. Don't feel like refinishing all of them because the others look perfectly fine.

Default ...

I'm not sure but it is not acid and is safe for all wheels.

Something else I just remembered, I have dealt with rust but not on a wheel. P21S polishing soap got rust off of my stainless steel sink, the only thing is, it is mildly abrasive and not safe on painted or anodized surfaces.
