I'm starting to think that they "draw" unwanted attention to the car....

Default I agree, maybe this jerk lost money in the market and took it on you

I used to have a vanity plate and did not like the way people use to look at me IMHO.

Default I didn't purchase a new or nice car for a long time for fear of something like what...

happened to you.But then the evildoers win. Change the plate if it makes you feel safer but you can't stop living for fear of what might happen. Unfortunately there are no good bastards out there. I have a beater for times when I think it would be unwise to take my newer cars.Seems practical & works for me but it's no guarantee.I just put the negative life events behind me asap.

Default I don't think those that key cars are invested. Vandalism is just a cheap thrill for many.

Obviously they liked your car. Keying is a sign of approval. They just don't want you to enjoy it if they can't. Also keyers have a gripe and that may be that you are wealthier than they and able to flaunt it with the TT. My advice is have a second, more pedestrian vehicle for daily driving and leave the TT garaged for times you can keep a close eye.

No - but it makes it easier for people to remember you and your car. So I would avoid it.

Default I don't think so . . . Mine was vandalized twice without the vanity within owning it 2 months

has not been touched since the vanity plate was put on.

My car was vandalized twice in CT, not even in NY.
