Default Is it possible to exchange the shift up and shift down functions on a DSG's tunnel shifter?

After searching the forum I could not find anyone who has done this.
Normally with a DSG, forward on the tunnel shifter is shift up and backward is shift down. Can you change it so that forward is shift down and backwards is shift up. Is this even possible? Has anyone tried it? I was just wondering if you can even easily access the tunnel shifter's innards. From there I am hoping it is just some simple rewiring of two buttons. Any input you guys have would be great. Thanks.

Default Intresting---- That does sound backwards to me too.

On a six speed we shift up by pulling back the shifter 3 times and only push forward to shift up twice. Maybe that's why. Whichever --- I would think there needs to be some standard adopted as DSG type transmissions become more widespread. My wife drives a Lexus and everything controlwise seems backwards to me from window controls to wipers to climate control (I just get her to do that) The gauges even read wrong with full or hot at the bottom. She hates for me to drive it because I complain so much.(we will save the turning radius and brake dive for another discussion.)
Back to the shifter. As I think about it---When driving my ski boat I push the lever forward to go forward or faster. Maybe that is the best. Does need to be standardized in autos though. Not a good thing to have to think about when needing to upshift at high rpm or when on the ragged edge cornering.

I don't see why you couldn't change it- Have you had it apart?

Default Why would you want to change the protocol?

DSG is the correct protocol. It is the same as Tiptronic in Porsche and Range Rover and others that have that protocol.
