A couple of weeks ago I noticed my TT was making a faint whining or humming noise when I drove around at slow speeds. Recently it's gotten much worse and I noticed that it only happens when I turn the steering wheel, regardless of whether I am in neutral or in gear. It gets louder when I'm going slower. It seems like its the power steering.

I checked the fluid and noticed it was very low and so I added some power steering fluid and it sounds much better now, but still has the same whine, quieter, but it's still there. I suppose I should take it in to get it looked at it but I don't want to pay $104/hour labor charges from my dealer who is where I'd take it (cause he is right across the street from my work). Anyone have experience with failing power steering? Is this gonna be expensive to fix?

I don't think you have a problem. I ran my car for 300 miles with NO fluid, and NO power steering (It was an emergency), and it's fine. Unless you have a burning desire for the dealer to charge you that hour and tell you there's no problem. Did you put the Audi/VW fluid in there?

Yeah, I put the Audi/VW fluid I bought from the dealer in there. My TT is kind of old (6 years, 75,000 miles) so I'm worried that the power steering system is just failing.
