Default Power Steering Questions...

My power steering went "out" for an evening about a month ago. I topped off the fluid and it seemed to fix the problem. During the last two weeks I've noticed the belt slipping(squeaking) worse and worse while the car warms up. Now(today) the belt makes noise just idling. I did put underdrive pulleys, new belt and tensioner before all this started happening...any chance this isn't because of me? Do our pumps go bad(at 66k)?

TIA-

Default I drove quite a way...>

with no fluid in the pump (300 miles) and it still works fine. Did you do ALL the underdrive pulleys? Otherwise the tensioner may not have enough travel to tension the belt...

Default I skipped the alternator pulley....>>

but I'm sure ECS will argue the belt/tensioner was the right combo...right? Is there a test for the belt tension?

yea, push on it. Should not be more than 1/2" travel. Those tensioners are tight

Default Bingo! There's your problem

It would have been OK if you had put the whole set on..The Alt pulley is Larger to underdrive it. You need that increased diameter to make up for the changes on the other pulleys..

He could have called the mfr to see if it is ok to do 2/3 of a mod.

Default and still is my problem...>>

with only half of the right tools, I stripped the inner bolt on the alternator(clutch type)--hence the "skipped" part, now I'm not sure how to get it off. Any suggestions?
