So the European TT rear is different from the American TT. American license plates are those smaller rectangles while in Europe, they plates are long and narrow. The plate well is designed accordingly.
I personally prefer the European version, but what's the consensus out here? Also, is there a way to swap out the rear panel for an European versions?
(OF COURSE, THE PROBLEM WILL THEN BE, WHERE'S THE LICENSE PLATE TO GO?)

Probably illegal, though. I've heard that some people do this to their front plate to keep it from covering the air dam and keeping air from whatever needs it behind the center mesh section.

Well, it's not a big deal in Dallas about not having front plates. But ultimately, (and I'm still ambivalent on this), the question is, which rear end looks better, the European model, or the American model?
