It will make the charge less dense, thereby less combustible decreasing power potential and increasing work contributing to added heat. The heat shield is of questionable design. Unless the shield completely isolates the cone from engine compartment and provides a ambiant temp air feed access, the only benefit would be sound. If there are dynos comparing P-flow/high flow panel filter proving this hypothesis false, then I humbly withdraw my statements.
