I first caught a glimpse of this car on a History Channel show on Porsche. This car is a streamlined Volkswagen designed and built by Prof Porsche. Only three were built for the 1939 Berlin to Rome race. The car had a direct influence on the postwar development of the 356. It is certainly very evocative of the present day TT and IMO is the great-grandfather of the car we love. The photo came from the book "Denis Jenkinson, A Passion for Porsches," published by Haynes Publishing (www.haynes.co.uk). The book is full of great photos of early Porsches.

and campaigned a six cylinder 914 in numerous hill climbs. (now that WAS a VW!, particually the four-banger!)
