Just bought a 2001 TT today. 48,000 miles, garage kept, 225 HP, 6 speed manual coupe.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone here and hopefully share some knowledge once I acquire some knowledge!

I hope you have been following the various TT sites for info before you bought but, if not, if your timing belt, tensioner, water pump etc have not been changed in the past 5 years you must do so IMMEDIATELY. A failure will cost you $5K+.

Congrats on the new Audi.
Some very good advice. I just finished doing mine myself.
Be sure to check all your hoses too. When I purchased my 2002 the main air intake pipe had a tear in it.

Thanks the info guys. What's the best way to go about this? Buy the parts offline so that I can ensure I have a water pump with a metal impeller and take it to a local mechanic, or just get it done at the dealer?
My biggest concern as of now is this stock head unit. It's a tape player. A TAPE PLAYER. Due to the size I'm guessing an in-dash nav unit is out. Any solid suggestions for replacement?

Most folks think DeiselGeek makes the best parts kit. Total cost for the job is about $750 at an indy shop and about double that at the dealer. There are step by step DIY threads on other TT forums.
Most TTs came with the CD changer option. A nav system was offerd as an expensive option. It is rare and not that good. You are better off with an aftermarket system.
I would not drive the car until you did the TB work. There have been several posts of failures on the way to the shop to get this done.

Just found out the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, tensioner, and brakes were replaced 2.5 years ago. In those 2.5 years the car was only driven 4k miles so I should be set.

I did find out it had a CD player. I had no idea because there is no "CD" button on the head unit.
