Default Sunday- All's well that ends well!

We arose Sunday to SUNSHINE! Blessed SUNSHINE!

After grabbing breakfast, we found some local 93 octane and tanked up. After circling the IP (a local parking lot), we sortied out straight down US-129. Without stopping, we scrambled up past Tabcat Bridge, now crowded with sunshine riders, and sliced our way onto the Dragon.

More Minis this day, and a myriad of others. We had MR-2 drivers, sadly too many were driving their steed as if it were an old dray horse. More than one was DOA after a few apexes, blowing oil and water. Hopefully they learned that preparation is the key to successful execution. Vettes also began to show, including a gorgeous Little Red Corvette convertible, `65 or `66, with side pipes! Even a Ford GT showed up. Of course, most of them had stayed home in the rain. Quattro Rules!

After some scrambles up/down the Dragon, we mosied (right) down over NC-28 to Fontana Dam. This is the largest dam east of the Mississippi. Built during WWII, it powered east TN and the Oak Ridge complex of the Manhattan Project. While aged, it is a magnificent feat of engineering! We assembled a slightly smaller group at the base of the dam and had fun taking some group pics. The Minis had surfed on the turf the day before, and TVA security and Grounds staff asked us to keep off the grass. No problem: we used the `eye' at the end of the road to organize an "arc of Audis" and had fun. Afterwards, we moved to the top of the dam, and assembled into a column on the north side parking area. Ohio had pride of place as principal organizers and led a parade across the dam. While we couldn't park on the dam, we could `parade slowly'. We did so, got some neat pics AND video, and then broke down for goodbyes and pics. During this time, the Red Bull Mini pulled in and shared some RB: regular (leaded!) and their new `decaf' (unleaded) Red Bull! Charge!

With final beeps, I hauled InTTruder into a sharp right and uphill onto the Dragon. A solo MR-2 tried to kiss my bumper (RULE #1 darn it!) too many times, so I introduced him to StopTechs. He thought better of his driving habits afterwards, and stopped to change clothing. Bud (JAFO) and I returned to Alcoa, gathered ourselves, and split up to head home.

Musings:
- gear heads are gear heads, regardless of age!
- Delegate: they'll have more fun!
- everyone can have fun, and contribute!
- Mango is cooler than Red! (JK!)

Thanks to all for as-near a perfect event as I can recall. Safety 1st, great fun, new and old friendships forged.

See you 1-4 May 2008: I'd like to get 100+ cars up!
