Default Question about fan kicking in after you turn off car

Is the fan supposed to come on all the time?

I just finished a 15 minute ride on the highway and after I turned off the car the fan didn't sound as loud as it normally would when I hear it. It was a quiet mumur and you can hear the pops crackles and snaps (no not like rice crispies) from all over the car as it was settling.

The pops, crackles and snaps don't worry me, but the barely reving fan did... is this normal?

What you are most likely hearing is the pump that runs to circulate oil for the turbo to cool off. It is only found on 225s. I think it runs for 5 or 10 minutes and will then shut off. What is somewhat annoying is that this pump will run even if you just start the car and then shut it off, it isn't temperature activated or anything like that, it will simply always run after the engine is shut off.

I have a 180 and my fan has been doing that too as of late.

Default Worse than that, the ill conceived/engineered pump turns on just by turning on the ignition and then

runs for an idiotic 10 minutes even though engine was not even started. I guess the Audi engineers aren't too good at conceiving programming arguments, to wit: If, then, else, etc. Unbelieveable!

Default on 180 or 225, fan comes on as-needed; on 225 only, turbo pump also comes on, unconditionally

the 180 doesn't have the pump.
the fan doesn't always come on, depends on how hot things are.

Default Mine doesn't do that. I have had to turn the key and not start

quite a few times in the last few days as the tumbler in my ignition switch was broken. I had to turn the key on and jiggle as I turned it to the off position to get it to think they key was out. Never did I hear a fan or turbo pump.

Is it a 225 thing?
