Default Question: Do power steering lines really need to be removed to remove transmission?

Bentley states to remove the accessory belt (serpentine) and then remove the power steering pump pulley, which is done. The pulley needs to be removed in order to gain access to the power steering fluid lines (pressure and return).

Next step is to disconnect those lines. I have not done this yet, and am still puzzled as to why it needs to be done. Perhaps it will be evident later as to why it needs to be removed, but as of yet, I don't see it.

Is there another reason why the power steering lines need to be disconnected from the pump as a step needed to remove the transmission? Is it for clearance further in the process?

Thanks!

Default Possibly to prevent damage to the fittings on the reservoir >>

those metal lines run all along the front of the motor....so that is my initial thought...

Default No.

There's room enough to just push them out of the way.

Default The line from the pump to the reservoir is rubber, np, the...

line from the reservoir that wraps around the back of the motor then the front of the motor has some rubber sections in it so no problem. The high pressure line from the pump to the rack is the touch one that you want to be careful with. You should be able to gain enough space
