Someone backed into TT with a Jeep that had a tow hookup, and punctured the bumper and grill. Took it to repair shop and they gave me 2 estimates, one with replacing what they called the "egg crate ABS plastic" and one with reparing the "egg crate ABS plastic" if its not fully broke.
So what is the "egg crate ABS plastic" they are talking about and is it a good idea to just let them repair it if its not fully broke ?

just by the shape of it, square looking spaces...but ABS is just a thermal setting plastic, plastic. That's it....so it is up to you if you want to give your insurance company a break by having them repair it instead of buying all new. Remember, you both save when in an accident...insurance companies call it subrogation.

in both cases, and it seems that what they are referencing has something to do with the impact plastic for the front bumper

the non-egg crate would be the 1.8t bumper that most TTs have, as well as the older style 5 vertical bar grille that was present on older TT's (2000-2003, I believe).
