Question on Removing Engine Head

The shop manual says to remove the front exhaust pipe to remove the head from the engine. Is it possible to remove the head without doing the entire process of removing the exhaust pipe?

Timing Belt let go and at it failed a leak down test. Trying to find out how much damage.
