I just got a 2002 Roaster - 225 HP
17" wheels - the polished five broad spoke style.
Anybody know what that rim width is?
If I wanted to go to wider tires, what spacer thickness?

Rim width is probably 7 or 7.5 inches. Tire size is relative to rim width as shown on tire manufacturer site. A 225/45x17 was used by Audi. That size is properly fitted to the Audi rim. Whether a wider tire is used depends upon what size rim the tire manufacturer recommends for the tire.
Spacer thickness has nothing to do with wider tires, rim size does as far as tire fit on the rim is concerned.
As far as spacer size for track width, do a search. There is a wheel spacer calculator located somewhere in the TT archives. Remember the front track is wider than the rear track on purpose since the TT is largely a FWD car, even with Quattro.
