A question for those who have done the timing belt replacement
I'm having trouble finding a 5x55mm stud to compress the old tensioner. I was able to get a 5x50mm bolt (with washer and nut), would this be long enough or is the extra length critical? I'd hate to have to order a 50 cent stud or bolt online or worse find out that it's no good after I have the car apart.
Thanks in advance

Are you replacing the tensioner (which I HIGHLY recommend)? If so, don't worry about it....
just cut the old belt off or remove the tensioner bolts.... the reason you'd need to compress it is if you plan to reuse it.

Yes I am replacing the tensioner >>>
I figured if worse came to worse I would just cut the old belt off if I had to. I just wasn't sure if I was missing anything that would make it a bad idea.
I also wasn't sure if the tensioner could be easily removed while it's tensioning the belt.
Either one works for me. It reminds me of the old days, if it doesn't come off get a bigger hammer, if it still doesn't come off get a torch.
Thanks
