Default Question on Tire repair....

I picked up a nail in one of tires (Bridgestone), it didn't go flat, but I tried removing it, and it does lose air when you try to remove the nail. There are less that 2K miles on the car. I'm taking it back to the dealer on Monday.

I'm cocerned about the repairability of the tire. The nail is less than an inch from the sideway. Does anyone have experience with repairing this type of puncture? Can it be patched this close to the edge? The Bridgestone warranty data indicates that if repaired, it can no longer be considered "speed rated". If the dealer wants to repair it, can I use this as justification to replace it?

Any advice in dealing with this is greatly apprreciated!

Default Re: Question on Tire repair....

There shouldn't be any problems with the reliability of the tire with a "plug" repair, if it was just a small caliber nail. When they remove the tire to repair it they can inspect the sidewall for any possible damage to the tire. If there is any possible of damage to the sidewall, then they won't patch it and your tire warranty should cover replacement if you have road hazard coverage.
