Default Quick question for 2004 TT roadster audiophiles...

I have the stock head unit, non-bose, no cd changer.

I gotta replace my head unit, as I i need a headunit with a line-in.

I'm going to pay a local shop to do it, however is there anything difficult about this process that the shop might have problems with? For example, are there anything special about the stock radio that an aftermarket radio might not be equiped to handle (for example, the connection to the rear speakers/sub amp?)

Thanks for any help you can lend... im paranoid the local shop will just butcher this thing and not know whats going on once they dig up my car.

I read the articles by jbipes (sp?), but they are no help, as many things have changed about the newer radios and those older articles.

Couldn't you just wire the line in to the CD Changer in?

Default The only thing that changed in the 'Concert II' H/U is the CAN-BUS, switched power and illumination.

Everything else is the same. My documentation for the line-outs and CD changer inputs are all the same for all years of the TT.

This is the label from a 'Concert I' H/U

Nope. Not without the Changer present to provide the protocol signals to open the inputs.

Default Given that...

Do you forsee any problems replacing this head unit with one from another manufacturer (in my case, a Nakamichi head unit)?

Alternatively,

How feasible would it be to add an RCA line-in to the existing head unit?

Default 1. No, you will need to find switched +12V from the fuse box however. 2. Not possible without....

the Blitz-type adapter (that mimics the CD Changer)

OR

wire in an A/B switch into the line-input if the changer is present.

(this is what my adapter does. Hit the "For sale' link in my sig.)

Default Thats really cool...

But in order to utilize that, i'd have to wire an OEM cd changer cable to the back of my headunit?

Also, it doesnt appear that my head unit even has cd changer controls (there is no button for it, other than the CD button, which is for the single internal disk)

That sounds kinda tough. Any articles on how to do that, or how I would go about it?

Default changer cable is there, prewired, but you'd also need the *changer*....

when the 6-disk changer is present, you hit the 'CD' switch again, and it toggles to the external 6-disk unit.
