yes. They gave me both the code and the serial number. They also said that they will put it in my records in case it needs to be done again.

I just bought my TT and the guy didn't have the radio code. Went to the dealer as I know the service advisor there. He said they switched over their entire computer system about 8 months ago and now CANNOT PULL the Code via serial Number and VIN combo. The new system has them plug into the car now and connects directly with Audi Corporate. Once VIN confirmed and at DEALER, it will provide the Radio code. He said they can't even do the look up the old way as I was about to pull the head unit but called before I did. I took it in for an Oil Change and Alignment and "Found" the Radio code printed out ont he passanger seat when I picked up
The print out looked like a screen print from a computer too.
Just thought I'd share to see if it's the same so others don't have to waste time pulling the HU.

That picture is not the code, curse it. However, when installing a Chinese MP3 player that piggybacks in between the CD changer and the head unit, it was going to be much easier to unplug things, so I did.
When I plugged it back together, about five minutes later, the radio (BOSE Concert I [Germany was still installing cassette decks in 2001?!]) worked perfectly and required no code.
I've since gotten the Bentley book, and it mentions that the code is stored by the instrument panel, and so long as the radio's not change, it doesn't need a code input when being re-installed.
Does anyone know if this is a volatile memory setup? Does it lose the information when the battery is disconnected?

Some of the Concert I's don't require a code. Don't know why that is but it is not uncommon.
Wish mine was like that.
In general if you disconnect power you will need the code.
The immobilizer code on a 2001 is stored in the cluster not the radio.
I believe later cars with CAN-bus and Concert II store the code and as long as the radio serial# is the same it will recognize it and allow it to work.
